eBay Lens Sale

Woo! $475 for the lens and $20 for the hood, sold to a guy in South Africa who appears to be legit.

I like to think that I get more bids by being willing to ship overseas. I think if one is careful it’s generally safe, and with the US dollar doing horribly there’s a big advantage for people in other countries to buy our stuff. Shipping overseas is pretty easy, too. Same old USPS, just different options to pick from.

Lens For Sale

Anyone interested in buying my Canon EF-S 17-85MM f4-5.6 IS USM? I’m asking US$500 for it, along with the EW-73B hood and two filters, a Hoya slim circular polarizer and Tiffen UV. (The UV filter was generally kept on the lens to help mitigate damage, were the lens to be bumped or dropped.)

The lens was purchased by me at the very end of last year along with my Canon 20D. As I’ve acquired a new lens which overlaps the usefulness of this one, I’ve decided to sell it.

It has never been dropped, is in excellent condition, and works great. I simply don’t need it any more.

It’ll likely go up on eBay within a day or so if I don’t hear from anyone, so please let me know if you are interested.

Thanks!

UPDATE: It’s now on eBay, along with the hood: 290038467858 & 290038468779

Mg

So, I just purchased 75′ of magnesium ribbon on eBay for just under $21, shipped.

Heh.

This is much safer than the pound of metallic sodium I was considering purchasing a few years ago. I’m really glad I didn’t do that.

Anyone having a bonfire soon? Mg is great fun there.

McMaster-Carr

Wow, McMaster-Carr has really impressed me.

Yesterday evening I ordered these parts and paid $4 in shipping. When I arrived home from work today, all the parts were waiting on the porch.

Wow. Just, wow.

Sure, I had to order 100 of each piece of screw which I wanted, but I was able to get the exact parts needed. And the cost was only around US$0.05/each anyway.

No trying to make-things-work with the hardware found at Lowes or Home Depot.

I’ll definitely be ordering from them again next time I need mechanical parts… Or whatever else they carry, for that matter.

Canon EF 35mm f/2

Do any of you have any experience with the Canon EF 35mm f/2?

I currently have the Canon el-cheapo 50mm special and while it’s a great lens, it’s a bit tight on a 1.6x crop body. I think that this 35mm should be more comfortable, as it should be more in line with a 50mm lens on a full-frame body.

Cost is $219 grey market…

I’m thinking it would be a good lens to keep on the camera when wandering around and not wanting a bulky zoom.

PowerBook G4

So, I’m thinking of selling my PowerBook. It’s a 1.5Ghz PowerPC G4 15″ PowerBook with the following things:

· AppleCare through 26-Jan-07
· 80GB Hard Drive
· 1.25GB RAM
· Backlit Keyboard
· Light Sensor for automatic keyboard and screen brightness control.
· DVD Writer
· Bluetooth
· 802.11a/b/g Wireless (Airport)
· OS X 10.4.7 (Latest)

It also comes with a keyboard protector / cleaner thing to go between the keyboard and the display to ensure that it stays nice.

The reason I’m selling it is because I simply don’t use it enough. It’s always worked great whenever I’ve needed it, but (unfortunately) that hasn’t been often enough. There are no dead pixels on the display, and the entire thing is like new. The battery still gets it’s full charge, etc.

I also have all the original packaging for it, manuals, cables, etc.

I’d like $1200 for it. Interested? Please get a hold of me…

It’s going to a good home. :)

Carrier 24ACA324A300

Carrier 24ACA324A300 outside my bedroom window.
(Click for more install photos…)

I have air conditioning again! And the installers seem to have done a pretty good job. Everything looks nice and orderly, and the price seemed pretty reasonable. Also, it’s amazingly quiet. Metered from 2′ from the front panel, about 1′ above the unit I was seeing 72dB on the meter.

It’s also becoming much cooler in my house. Yay!

Free Stuff

I’ve got some things I’d like to give away. Anyone want them? My only rule is that you come pick them up somewhat soonish.

These things are as follows:

· Weller WP25 soldering iron, with two tips (screwdriver and 1/32″ conical), stand, and sponge.
· Two older, very quiet, Pentium 200 computers. I’ve used these as routers in the past, and can ensure that they come with enough NICs for you to do the same. Run Linux or OpenBSD just great.
· The microwave seen in this photo. It’s a good size for an apartment and is practically like new. I really never used it much, and it’s been sitting in storage for a while. I’d like a to trade something for this, maybe $20 or a nice dinner someplace or… Something. I’d just like it to go away.
· Two pairs of passive computer speakers.
· 10Mb hub, 24 port. HP J2601A.
· Netgear RP614 router / firewall thingie. Works, just isn’t needed anymore.

Krups Espresso Maker

Would anyone like my espresso maker? It is the one seen to the left of the stove in this photo. It’s a few years old Krups which hasn’t been used more than 5 times. It’s nice and clean, with maybe just a bit of dust on it. I simply don’t use it, and I’d rather not throw it out.

So, whoever wants it can have it.
