Best Buy Part Deux
February 24, 2005
Well, I went to the Utica Best Buy location on the way home. They were not able to duplicate the issue at all. Fortunately after talking to the (much nicer) service guy, I came away with a potential solution. If I can record a video of the problem happening, that will be acceptable as proof. Well, the problem happens a lot, and my phone can record video, so next time it happens I’ll (try) to get video of it. Interestingly, it happened in the car on the way home, but I was so excited that it was happening that I bumped another button before I was able to get the video. Ah well…
If you feel inspired, write a mean letter to Best Buy Customer Service(it’s a Best Buy warranty right?). Explain that their techinician witnessed your problem and refused to help you. Describe this design defect, pointing out that the problem is widespread. Demand that they replace your pod within a specific timeframe (two weeks?). Explain that if they will not honor the terms of the warranty, you will seek help from the courts and/or the Michigan Attorney General’s office.
This isn’t meant as legal advice, but I find that a properly targeted letter will entice a big company to “make sure that you are happy.” In the long run, if you Best Buy will not help you, download a complaint form from the Michigan Attorney General’s website. In my experience, the AG will forward your complaint to the company, and follow-up to see that something is done.
Thanks. :) I might give that a go, but for now I think it’ll actually be quicker to demonstrate the issue to the more-friendly tech. This problem happens often enough that I should be able to capture video of it fairly easily…
yep. it’s probably just a matter of finding the right tech person. I was still fired-up on lawyer testosterone when I wrote that post. sometimes it takes a while to come down from my “sue the bastards!” mode. hehe. good luck.
Hehe, yeah. I understand how that is… :) I find myself that way but from a technical perspective at times. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some video of this problem happening today. We’ll see…
