Bike Shorts

Last updated on July 1, 2026

Last night I picked up a set of Novara Exposure Double Bike Shorts from REI. Thus far they seem pretty comfortable, and the L size fits nicely.

I do wonder how long they’ll last. At $56 or so, hopefully at least a year. That said, I wonder if I’d be able to eBay them for profit after they are worn out. After all, there is a market for used women’s underwear. I’m sure there’s a market for used men’s bike shorts.

UPDATE: eBay does not seem to garner high prices for worn bike shorts, nor other men’s shorts in general. I imagine I’ll just have to throw these out once they are worn out. That’s probably for the best, anyway.

I have three pair of shorts. I bought them for $19 each on eBay, they list for $29. I’ve worn them every work day for 3 years now. I need to do some repair on them but they’re still in pretty good shape considering 3 years of wearing and machine washing and drying. I do line dry them in the summer.

Honestly, I don’t know how they justify charging even $19 for bike shorts.

FYI for shirts I buy ANSI lime shirts from alertshirt.com. They’re wicking poly shirts and work fine. They have some reflective stuff too but I generally just wear a Harbor Freight vest over top if I’m riding at night.

My rain jacket is from J&G – they’re at bicycleclothing.com. I wear it every rainy day and any day that’s < about 45*F, for 2 years now, including one fall, and it shows no sign of wear yet. $99.

FYI the place I bought from is love2pedal.com – you can just go buy Ascent 6 panels there for $21.95 without having to screw around with eBay. Those are what I’ve been using. I need to get a couple more pair so I have one for every day and don’t have to wash in the middle of the week.

Oh, thanks. Those sites all look pretty interesting… I’ll probably try out the Ascent baggie shorts next.

Those safety shirts are on sale for cheap. Hmm. Those look nice.

I grabbed an orange & reflective bits shirt from Target for a similar price, but it’s definitely not that visible.
