TiVo Go Boom

When I went to use my TiVo for some audiovisual entertainment while eating dinner, I’d found that it was stuck at the starting up screen. It was stuck here for a while, so I pulled the power cord and put it back in. After not very long I received the error shown above.

I then proceeded to watch a bunch of broadcast TV (some thing about Viet Nam on THC, I think) while eating. After finishing eating, the TiVo seems to have fixed itself. This is probably good, because I was so unhappy with the advertising and such on TV that I was about to go sort out grabbing torrents via RSS feeds. (No, I don’t know how to do this.)

At least it’s working… for now…

  1. This is TiVo’s “my two OS file systems don’t match, I’m attempting to repair from the backup” message.

Ergh. I wonder how that happened.

I think there were some power glitches over the weekend, and I hadn’t used the TiVo since then. It worries me that it was hung at the boot screen, too.

      1. It likely hung on the boot screen due to the aforementioned problem. Your primary OS partition got messed up… it’s why they have the second copy.

Well, that’s good I guess… Hopefully the disk isn’t going south. Although, I guess if it is it won’t be too hard to replace…

It takes you three hours to eat your food? ;)

My parents set top box randomly announces it has to do some “disk maintenance”. Conveniently it likes to do this while you’re watching telly, and it announces the fact by blanking the screen and displaying “Disk Maint” on the LCD it has.

Their previous one just died, so I took the HDD out and put it in my server :) I did have a poke around on the disk first, but it had no partition structure, I think the data was being written straight to the disk.

My own PVR does this sort of thing sensibly at 3am when I’m asleep. A couple of times I’ve woken up to find it saying “I’ve got some new firmware in me! Let’s go and reboot so it works”.
