Xbox 360 w/HDMI

Space Giraffe Playing Device

I gave in.

(After ensuring I still had a network run to that corner of the basement, and that I was purchasing one with the HDMI port and new heatsink design.)

So, how did you ensure you were buying the newer heatsink with HDMI?

It’s kinda hard to see in this photo, but if you look at the right side of the box, under Contents:, then under Xbox 360 Console Specifications, there is an HDMI port line. (photo)

I remember the older ones saying something like Premium or Pro on the box itself as well, and this one just says Xbox 360.

My understanding is that all of the HDMI port ones have the fixed / better heatsink. I also opened the box once I got back to work, and there is most definitely an HDMI port on the back. Right above the absolutely gigantic AV out port.

I thought that all premium/pro bundles had HDMI, though? Conceivably, some were made before the heatsink change, right?

I don’t think so… It was only very recently that HDMI was added, and the premium / pro name was removed.

There also seems to be the name ‘zephyr’ which was supposedly the codename for the redesigned Xbox.

Also, this photo from this page shows the new heatsink and that’s a non-HDMI 360. (The HDMI port makes the connector on the far right of my first link taller, if I remember right. Also, mine has a date of manufacture of 2007-07-04 which is after the reports of new heatsinks being found started floating around.)

So, I can’t say absolutely for certain, but based on what I’ve read and this being a new model, I’m pretty certain that it is the new design.

Sorry, I’m wrong. That’s not the AV port… That’s one of the memory card slots.

This here shows the new 360 HDMI board, and you can clearly see (check the orientation of the chokes) that the new heatsinks were found on the old boards. I can only imagine that the new boards also have the new heatsinks.

Hahah :) You spent £200-odd on a device to play a £3.50 game. That’s dedication for you ;)

Me? I bought mine to play with the visualiser you get free with the 360. Then I noticed it also had some rather nice games, so I think I’m just as bad.

You must seek out Dead Rising and Crackdown. One will have you laughing your tits off, the other will cause you to take great pleasure in being antisocial towards the game’s population.

My house is full of ethernet cable and little 5 port switches to route the data around. My kitchen is the only room where getting a wired network connection would be tricky – but the two wireless access points in the house make up for that – I really like using Skype on my Nokia N800, it’s like having a free portable phone :)
