PG Tips, McVitie’s Digestives, and Organic Milk
What an excellent afternoon snack on a day when I returned from a rather lengthy lunch, only to be told that I can leave if I want.
Now I’m sitting here waiting for 2GB of RAM to show up for the G5 so that I can scan negatives. I was able to scan the 110 slides with the 1.5GB in here now, but it was pushing things. Opening the 45MB TIFFs in Lightroom with the current amount of RAM causes the machine to chew on the disk for 2-3 minutes per image. This needs to change before I tackle ~1000 full-frame 35mm negatives.
2GB
I have 2GB of patriot memory on my system (PC). I was waiting for my motherboard for 2 weeks for a replacement, but it’s delivered today. Thanks goodness for UPS’s awesome tracking system. Man I can’t wait to get out of work and then go home and assemble my new computer. I will be staying up late (or early) into Thanksgiving morning I’m sure.
Re: 2GB
Oh, excellent. Yeah, I’m the sort of person who (I believe rightfully) thinks that more RAM is always better than more CPU. Basically, loads of RAM and fast disk will make any CPU work far better than one expects.
This machine is a now three year old PowerMac G5 which is plenty snappy for most things, I just found a way to drag it down. Also, this scanner isn’t supported on Intel Macs yet (for some absurd reason) so I pretty much have to stick with this machine.
i’m about ready to add RAM to my iMac. most of the time she’s okay, but i can feel when she gets draggy and that’s fixable. i should have just upgraded when i bought it last winter, but i was lazy.
How much does it have now?
Ooh tea and biccies. That’s proper British that is ;)
It’s a bit weak, but at the proper time. And I found proper biscuits! Except they were US$4/tube. :(
Ooh if you like I’ll bring some back from the UK with me, and then I’ll send them on :)
I don’t mind at all!
Thank you. :) Please don’t bother for now, though. I know there is some place in Canada (Sarnia area, I believe) which carries them for about US$1 for each large package. The packaging is a strange plain red color, but they are the same brand and taste the same. I just need to head over there and get 10 tubes or so.
