P3 Crap

For fuck’s sake. I can’t close the case on the P3.

It turns out that the pots which are recommended for those in the US are sized in a particular way which causes a particular circuit board to stick out far enough that the case won’t close. :\

The other pot option is US$1.35/ea. That’s not bad, except when you figure that I already purcahsed $32 worth of pots and they are now useless. And I can’t finish it this weekend.

I’m going to have to figure out what to do about this tomorrow.

  1. Damn, that stinks. It’s true, measure twice, assemble once! ;0)

The problem is that I used the ‘recommended’ pots, and because of the positioning of the pins along the body of the pot, things don’t fit. If you look here, see Figure H in the upper right? And see where the pins are on the body, close to where the pot mounts to the panel?

The pots which were recommended for US people to order are Figure F in the lower left. With the pins being at the opposite end of the body of the pot, furthest from the mounting face?

Now, look at the completed pot boards here. See how the pots fit into the board?

This has caused the PCB to sit far enough back that it hits the rear of the enclosure and holds the case about 5mm from closing.

      :(

Right now the only choice is to bend the leads on the pot boards so the board sits at an angle and everything closes, or replace all the pots. And Mouser doesn’t seem to carry the ‘other’ pots I would need. (16mm, PC mount, 10K or 4.7K)

I kinda wish this was something that I screwed up, because then it wouldn’t be as frustrating.
