Herbs

(Click for full res…)

Well, the herbs are growing quite well. There’s parsley, green onion, dill, and basil almost fully grown. In fact, the basil has begun flowering. The small sprouts between the green onion and basil are cilantro, which I planted a few weeks ago. Hopefully that’ll grow nicely as well.

Now, what to do with it all… I’ve got no use for that much parsley, but the basil could become some great peso. If I only had cheese…

Ah well, I’ll worry about that later. For now I’m going to go finish building the last MIDIbox SID-NUXX PCB, the one for my MOS 6581-based box.

Erm, for what it’s worth, that’s probably chives, not green onions. Additionally, if you want that basil to keep growing, you’ll need to pinch back any flowering tips (or it’ll go to seed and stop growing). (if you’re serious about having herbs to cook with, you might want to replant those into separate containers, too, because they’ve probably depleted most of the nutrients in that one.)

Doh, that’s right… Green onions are just onion tops, really. Right?

I’m not that serious about the herbs… And I’ll occasionally give them some Miracle Grow, since that’s a fairly harmless fertilizer. Should keep the soil okay, I think. It was also all new soil for this planting, so I think that’ll help.

I did go pull all the buds from the basil… I need to do something with it too, though.

    Just Curious

What brand of camera are you using?
    Model, specs, etc?

That image was taken with a Canon EOS 20D body and a Tokina 100mm macro. Full details for that image can be seen at the bottom of this page.

Basil has better flavor if harvested before it flowers. Cut back the flowers and let it give more energy to the leaves.

I just went and did this. Also pulled all the dead flower bits from the other plants, too.

Thanks. Now I just need to find something to do with it… And to care for the plants a bit more.

Huh. That sounds pretty nice… How much lemon juice? Lemonade-strength, or stronger? And do you crush the basil a bit?

Looks like I’ll have to pick up some lemons soon…
