Ch-ch-ch-changes!

I’m going to be moving my personal website from static HTML to MediaWiki, possibly with Turck MMCache.

This is because I’m tired of not regularly updating my page because of the problems of dealing with static HTML and templates. A locked down, CMS-style copy of MediaWiki seems to do just what I want.

Anyway, if you’d like to take a look at a preview of the site, it can be seen here.

In order to maintain the ability to have a bunch of other subdirectories full of stuff, I’ll probably have things redirect from / to /wiki or something. But we’ll see about that…

Oh, and if you have any comments about how I can make the site better (besides a new theme) please let me know.

that looks kinda neat… i’m curious to see how the transition goes and might be interested myself. i’d love something that’s easy to update, but not totally bloggy.

will you still have the google ads?

Yep, there’s one over there in the left column. I also might try and find a way to stick some in the pages themselves. Not sure about that, though.

That’s what I was wanting, too… I don’t want a blog-like news site, I want something I can just keep editing, but all with my own content. The markup used for MediaWiki is pretty easy to remember, too. Lots easier than HTML. Take a look here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Editing

oh! i like that the ads are still there, but not top/bottom like they are on your current page(s). i’d be more inclined to add them to my own if i could do it that way.

        color me VERY intrigued (:

It’s pretty easy to install. You’ve already got a database and you’ve got access to the filesystem. I could throw a copy under /wiki if you want.

yeah that’d rock. i’m in no hurry, but i’d love to play and tweak and eventually roll everything over to that sort of system.
