High School Math
October 24, 2005
Remember how, when learning Algebra in high school, most people thought that they’d never really need it in day to day life? Well, while I don’t use such things for my job, I need to solve similar problems all the time for brewing beer.
It’s cool that it serves such a noble purpose. :D
I, on the other hand, was told by my 7th grade Algebra teacher that because I was a girl, I didn’t really need to know math.
A FEMALE math teacher.
Yeah.
You’ll understand once the little ones come `round.
The Underpants Gnomes?
:P
Hehehe…
Thats what they need to be telling high school students when they are teaching them algebra. heck, atleast they would pay attetion in class then
I immediately saw the usefulness of algebra when I learnt it in middle school.
It was trig and calculus that I couldn’t imagine needing….
Well, I could see places where it would be used, but I was already doing it in my head so I didn’t see places where it needed to be written down.
amen to that (:
That’s funny, my algebra teacher makes wine and just explained it to use algabraically. (is that a word? it is now!) It was interesting. I thought of you and your beer when he did it.
heh. i was just telling someone the other day that homebrewing had no appeal to me as it seemed far too much like math, i guess i was right!!!
math is love.
