Well, it seems that if you take 6061 Aluminum and heat it to 350°F for 8 hours, then air cool it, it will be hardened to T6 specifications. Once I get the stand shaped as I want, I think I’m going to try to temper it in my oven. I can’t see any reason why it’ll cause any problems, and the chemistry of 6061 doesn’t seem like it contains anything that would be harmful to have heated up in my house.

    I wish I lived up near your way. You sound like you’d be really cool to hang out and tinker with. Keep us informed on the progress of the stand! :)

    I noticed you bought that from a place in Houston, Missouri. That’s not far from here. If I ever need metal I know where to go… and I won’t even have to deal with shipping!

    1. I just like to fsck around with things. :) Fortunately the furniture is almost finished.
