Ragley Carnegie’s Bar on Salsa El Mariachi

Yesterday I fitted my new-ish single speed, the Salsa El Mariachi with a Ragley Carnegie’s Bar; the same handle bar that’s on the Titus. After tonight’s ride at Stony Creek with it I’m very, very happy with this as a single speed bar. At 80mm wider than the previous carbon fiber bar I had in place it’s a lot easier to rock the bike side to side while standing and pedaling, and the different hand position is much more comfortable to me.

I’m really starting to like how this bike feels, and even as a single speed it felt extremely fast to ride today. I think I’m going to enjoy riding this bike this year.

(I just have a few small quirks left to work out. Namely, there’s a small ticking noise that I think is coming from the stem/bar area, and the seatpost is slipping a little. The computer also isn’t working right, alternately logging way too fast of speeds or no data at all.)

Your computer problem is most likely your contact points. I know when my sweat drips on the computer when riding for long periods of time it corrodes the points. Just a thought to check out!

Josh: Thanks for idea, but I don’t think that’s it. I’ll still check it out, but I think it’s the wire. I don’t really drip sweat on my bike much, and this mostly started happening after I fell on the pump track at the Tree Farm. I’m figuring I did something funky to the wire and maybe I now need to shorten it or replace it or something like that. I really do like this computer, I just wish they made it stem-mount.

Hey c0nsumer, still liking the Carnegies on the Mariachi? I would love to see some more pictures of them on that bike. Maybe the view you have from sitting on the saddle looking down on them?

    Thanks!

forgivenick: I’ll see what I can do. It’s really similar to the normal bar, but if you simply turn your hands outward slightly. I find them super-comfortable.
