Free Panasonic PV-D4743S

Panasonic PV-D4743S sitting in my office.Working Panasonic PV-D4743S Found In Trash
(Click to ebiggen…)

Two weeks ago I mentioned a DVD player / VCR combo I found in the trash. As I thought, it works great. This afternoon I gave it a test, and both the DVD and VCR halves work great. While there isn’t a remote, it doesn’t really seem to be needed. Or, one could easily purchase a universal remote to use with it.

So, that said, would any of you like it? Obviously, you’d have to come get it, but I’d like to be rid of it. I don’t have a need for it, but hopefully someone I know does. And yes, I mean actually use, not just have to add to a pile of other stuff.

If no one here wants it I’ll just take it to the Salvation Army. I’m sure they can find someone who could make good use of it.

Anyway, let me know if you want it…

Trash

While riding bikes around my neighborhood, Danielle and I noticed a VCR/DVD player combination sitting at the side of the road. After getting back to my house we headed over there to pick it up.

In a pile was the following, from bottom up: Vizio 32″ LCD HDTV box, Samsung VCR/DVD player box listed as “HDTV Compatible”, a brand new looking Panasonic VCR/DVD player combo.

I checked in the Samsung box for the remote for the Panasonic device, but it (unfortunately) wasn’t there. I imagine the sort of folks who would just throw something like this out probably tossed the remote in a normal trash bag, amongst some rotted chicken or whatnot.

Best of Bootie 2007: Fixed

It seems that I sort of screwed up the zip file for the Best of Bootie 2007 comp mentioned here. Basically, the very last file was missing about two minutes of audio. I think that bootieusa.com was starting to have problems as I downloaded it.

Anyway, the zip file is fixed. If you’ve already downloaded it, grab bob2007_2-10.mp3 and use it to replace Disc 2, Track 10 (the very last track), listed as 2:09 in length, and everything will be better.

Or, you’re welcome to just grab the whole package again.

FLIR

Thermal ImagingTaking a picture of myself on a thermal imaging display.

When at the Museum of Science and Industry, there was a display on imaging technologies. I liked the thermal imaging display (I really, really want one of these cameras) so I took a picture of me being shown taking a picture of it.

U2 Can Celebrate Christmas

U2 Themed Flyer from Heritage Church
(Click to embiggen to full res 300 dpi scan.)

A couple weeks ago I received this flyer for Heritage Church, one of the local churches which meets in a rented high school facility.

To quote from the flyer:

Just what does the biggest band in the world have to say about things like faith, hope, joy and peace on earth? I think if you look closer you’d be surprised…

Join us this Christmas season for four weeks as we investigate and unpack the music of U2. We’ll explore the themes, lyrics and Biblical messages found in some of their most popular and enduring songs. You will come away inspired this Christmas… possibly with a new appreciation for U2, but more importantly, for the amazing story and meaning of Christmas. Come check us out, if you’re ready to really rock around the Christmas tree!

[…]

Please note that the band U2 will not be appearing at Heritage Church, but their music will be there.

Looking a bit further, it seems that MTV has picked up on this, and it is being called U2Charist. Per Wikipedia:

A U2Charist (also spelled eU2charist) is a communion service, or Eucharist, accompanied by U2 songs in lieu of traditional hymns and sometimes as part or all of the service music.

On The Edge

Well, after a few months of on again, off again, waiting for carryout, eating lunch, toilet, and bathtub reading I finished On The Edge: The Spectacular Rise and Fall of Commodore.

It’s quite worth reading if you have an interest in the history of Commodore / Amiga and are curious about where things went wrong. It assumes a fair bit about ones’ technical knowledge, just diving in and occasionally talking about how / why some decision or another was bad, but it’s pretty easy to read.
