On The Edge
October 29, 2007

Well, after a few months of on again, off again, waiting for carryout, eating lunch, toilet, and bathtub reading I finished On The Edge: The Spectacular Rise and Fall of Commodore.
It’s quite worth reading if you have an interest in the history of Commodore / Amiga and are curious about where things went wrong. It assumes a fair bit about ones’ technical knowledge, just diving in and occasionally talking about how / why some decision or another was bad, but it’s pretty easy to read.
Seconded. I couldn’t put it down when I got into it and would regularly stay up too late. It’s a great look at not only the history of Commodore, but of the early computer industry as a whole. Five Stars.
also, there is an ongoing story on ars technica focusing on the amiga specifically, starting at the Pre-commodore days.

my mom got me a commodore 64 when i was 5, and then an amiga 500 when i was 8 or 9. I didn’t get a “pc” computer until about 1995. I’ll never forget how much fun I used to have with those things though.
Cool, wishlisted for later ordering.
me toos…
