Beer / Cider Brewing Equipment

[Crossposted to and …]

So, there’s a very distinct possibility that I will need to rid myself of beer brewing equipment. This includes:

· Gas burner and two large pots. (Turkey fryer, turkey fryer pot, and other very large pot. Only ever used for beer.)
· Two 5 gallon carboys and one 6 gallon carboy.
· Two buckets, one with spout for bottling.
· Lever-style Bottle Capper.
· Various tubing, airlocks, siphon, bottling wand.
· A good number of clean, empty, label-less, matching bottles.
· A few various ingredients (corn sugar, rice hulls, irish moss, etc).
· Bottle tree large enough to hold enough bottles for five-gallon batch.

Are any of you interested? It’s available in Southeast Michigan, and I’d probably want about $200 for it all, although I’m willing to entertain other offers…

DreamHost… Again…

So, I’m in a bit of a tough spot. I’m trying to figure out what to do about DreamHost. I haven’t heard anything back from my support ticket with them, so I’m pricing out options to get my server back in colocation with Waveform.

My current thought is to replace the likely-to-fail-soon 5x 120GB ATA-6 drive assembly (running software RAID1 and RAID 0+1 via GEOM) with a 3ware 8006-2LP and a pair of fairly commodity (probably WD or Seagate) SATA drives.

Total cost for this will be around US$300, plus resumption of US$50/mo colocation payments.

Gur. I don’t know what to do. I want to stick it out and see if DH gets better, but if I need to build an entire server and move things back to it, I need to get going soon.

Flowers & Patio Furniture

Vista Red and Vista Purple Salvia
(Click for all flower photos…)

No, my UK photos still aren’t uploaded. ‘s are, though. Well, somewhat. Not enough to link to yet.

Yesterday I took the time to (finally) plant flowers out front. I’d been wanting to wait until I returned from the UK so that I didn’t have to worry about finding someone to water them for me. I also planted the Chia Herb Garden thing which I’d had growing in the kitchen. I don’t know how well they will continue to grow outside, but it can’t hurt.

There are more photos of the flowers planted in 2006 here (photo gallery retired) if you would like to see them.

As a quick summary, I planted Vista Purple Salvia, Vista Red Salvia, Margarity Orange Portulaca, Liberty Lavender Snapdragons, and Regatta White Lobelia in the various flower holding spaces around my front porch. I also doubled the number of salvia plants in the rectangular planters on the front porch as opposed to previous years. Each box now has six plants, three each of red and purple. Hopefully they’ll grow well and provide some nicely mixed colors.

Now, back to more work… I just finished balancing my checkbook, which it was definitely needing. One and a half weeks of mixed currency charges, scheduled debits, and a few other things need a good bit of sorting out to handle. Fortunately I was sitting on a conference call for the better part of the morning, providing plenty of time to handle this.

!!!

Man, my colo facility is f’d up. Well, not their facility… Or their service… Just their billing. See, I installed the server back in February and (except for a failed switch card which they quickly replaced) things have been working great. Except for billing.

After the server was installed, I was told that I’d be receiving a bill at the end of the month. No problem… Well, three months rolled by and no bill. After a bit of email being sent around, I received an invoice a few days later. Paid it, no problems.

Well, three more months roll past, and still no bills. So, I email them asking for the June, July, and August bills. After a phone conversation early Wednesday morning, the billing folks explain that they don’t know what happened, but they’ll send an invoice out. So, Friday comes and I receive an invoice. For September. Bah! Heh…

Fortunately after a phone call today with Bill, the person who was there when I put the server in, he said that I should just pay the September bill, and they will get the billing stuff straightened out and send me another invoice in a few weeks to clear it all up.

That’s fine with me… I just hope it happens. Heh. In the mean time I’ve cancelled the June and July checks, adding them back into the pool of float, and waiting for the next invoice. I’ll just send what was to be the August check as the September payment.

Heh… It’s just funny. Most places are rock solid on their billing while service suffers. This place provides great, fast connectivity with cheap colocation rates. Just…. iffy billing. :)

So, yeah. Need someone to host your server? Look up Waveform Technologies.
