9090 Boards For Sale

Would any of you be interested in buying my 9090 boards (photo gallery retired)?

Asking price is US$550 shipped anywhere within the US. Outside of the US would cost a bit more, but probably not much. This is just slightly more than the cost for all the parts, except the hard work is actually done.

The boards have been professionally assembled and cleaned, then put in storage for a few months as I lost interest in the project. The boards are completely assembled with all parts fitted, it just needs an enclosure.

I’ll grab a few more photos of it tonight, but if you’re reading this you probably know that the work is properly done.

Here is the original page about the 9090.

UPDATE: Sold. :)

Sequentix P3

So, I’m thinking of selling my Sequentix P3.

The main site about it is here.

Strangely, my site talking about mine is the third Google hit when searching for sequentix p3.

I just think the $2k or so that it’ll fetch could do better earning compound interest, or put towards other projects. Maybe a kick-ass second headphone amp or something.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Moo-zick.

I think I was just listening to the DVD audio version of The Downward Spiral a bit too loud. However, the DAC in the OPPO DV-970HD (photo gallery retired) sounds really good, and the remastered, higher bitrate DVD audio version is shiny. I might also pick up a Playstation for music too.

Giant PDFs in <36 Hours

Linking Microbial Diversity and Geochemistry
of Uranium-Contaminated Groundwater
(72dpi JPEG · PDF)

Screening and Characterization of Soil Microbes Capable of
Degrading Cellulose from Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum)
(72dpi JPEG · PDF)

Remember those layouts I was talking about yesterday? They are done. Finally. Besides work and sleep and showering and pooping I’ve worked on nothing else but these since I woke yesterday morning.

Except for the MAME Cabinet control panels, these are the first poster-size thing I’ve done, and they were done in an extremely short period of time for the scale of work (read: more than a bit rushed), but I’m pretty happy with them. My source material for them was two JPEGs, a word document containing content, and a couple of spreadsheets with unformatted tables and graphs.

These are posters which cover the work Danielle has been doing at ORNL for the past few months. They will be printed at 55″ x 36″ and will be presented sometime this week. Hopefully the presentation will go well.

Now I think I’m going to relax a little. I’ve got a monitor here to test, but I might push that off until tomorrow.

I picked up a Westinghouse LCM-22w3 for US$179 at Best Buy. It’s not a great monitor, but it has a DVI input, is huge, and was cheap. I’m debating using it for my MAME Cabinet, but I’m really not sure. If you are interested one, most of the local shops still seem to have them in stock. Here is the Best Buy page for the item.

2006 Honda CR-V Stereo

2006 Honda CR-V stereo

Here. Have a picture of the 2006 Honda CR-V stereo which arrived today from this eBay auction.

I’m really looking forward to getting the whole car audio test setup going on my workbench. I just hope I’m good enough to figure out the protocol. We’ll see.

Now, to caption the photos for the RS232 to Eaton Leonard Interface, v2.0.

Honda Music Link

Well, I just sniped an auction for another Honda Music Link, for US$49 shipped. As soon as I get a logic analyzer (I might order one this week, I don’t know yet) I can properly begin writing new firmware for the Honda Music Link.

I’m thinking of moving the HMLiberator project name from a hardware project to the new firmware. Or maybe I’ll decide on a name if (when?) the new firmware is done.

My plan is to make the firmware nice and open source (BSD license, most likely), then charge people to reprogram their devices. Anyone who can do ICSP programming of a PIC can do it themselves, or I will for a small fee. I figure $20 plus shipping is fair.

iPhone, Amtrak, Bacon, etc.

Yesterday I got to play with an iPhone. I think that I would buy one if the following things change:

· Ability to get photos off of it via Bluetooth (OBEX?), or some method other than simply syncing with iPhoto or via email.
· Ability to upload photos via Safari.
· Ability to use the phone as a network device for data access via from another device. Either as a BT modem or network device.

The interface is very very slick, and it’s pleasant to use. Google Maps on it is a dream. However, it doesn’t do the couple things I want.

Danielle and I took an Amtrak train from Birmingham, MI to Ann Arbor, MI. We wandered around Ann Arbor, ate at Zingerman’s, bought a few things, met up with Kate and Ben, and then took the train home. It was $72 round trip for the two of us with business class seats. I have a few complaints about the service, but generally it was all right. I don’t know if I’d go via that route again, but it was nice to see the trip between the the two towns from a different perspective.

When at Zingerman’s I ate a very tasty sandwich plied with some high quality, tasty, smoked bacon. It also included lettuce, tomato, avocado, and green chilis.

Photos of all of this will likely come later.

Power Mac G5 Shipping Problems

Arraugh. The guy who purchased my Power Mac G5 received it and found it to be not seeing the hard drives. When he opened it up he found that the drive latches were up and the drives were dislodged. Here is the message from him:

Hi Steve, I received the item. There was a bit of a scare though.
I turned the computer on and all I got was a flashing folder with
a question mark. So I started up on the OS X DVD you included
and tried to run Disk Utility. To my surprise, there were no hard
drives in the computer. So I opened up the computer and
noticed that both hard drives must have been dislodged from
the case during transportation. And both of the gates that hold
them in position were in their up position. And the bottom HD
had the interconnects damaged in the process. Fortunately, I
was able to straighten the pins and reconnect the wires and
everything seems to be working fine. Just wanted to let you
know. I am still testing the machine right now. I will keep you
posted if there are any further problems. Thanks Steve.

This is kinda frustrating. If you take a look at this photo you can see the latches holding the drives in place. I wonder if it got dropped during shipping in a combination of ways which caused the latches and drives to become dislodged?

Uggh.

UPDATE: I sent the photo of the latches and such off to the person, and he replied with this:

Yeah, it looks like the source of the problem must have been in the
shipping. The foam inside the box looks damaged. And there is a
hole in the box. I will take photos and post it up soon. But so far,
everything seems to work fine.

So, it sounds like UPS sure bounced the package around a bit.
