New Camera!

Well, I went and got it after all… A Nikon Coolpix 5400. From what I’ve read it’s a pretty good camera, despite it’s lack of AF assist lamp.

Not a bad price, either. At Costco it’s $499.99 plus tax, then minus a $200 instant rebate. So, $329.99 after tax.

As long as I like it, I’ll still need to get a second battery, 1GB card, and a carrying case. The starter card it came with was only 16MB. Ah well… I would get the 1GB card locally, but the cheapest I’ve found it for was $126 plus tax. That’s a lot when Amazon wants around $100.

      Hehe… :P

Naw, I just wanted a camera that’s a bit more tweakable than the CP3200 I’d acquired last month. Hopefully a friend of mine will be acquiring that from me…

well, some of ust must be content with 1.3 megapixels. I’m happy with Cannon though, my camera seems to be pretty durable, and it does ok in the dark if I pay attention and can be arsed to use manual settings. I’d love to have a better camera, but it’s just so far away from possible right now.

Understandable. :) I hadn’t straight-up planned to get a new camera, but it seemed like a deal that was too good to pass up, so… Yeah. Now I need to play with it bunches to get the feel for it.

    nice!

what is it about seeing pictures of new things, packaging and all, that makes us want it??

I have a Fuji FinePix 6900Z, which I really like-I will upgrade to the Konica/Minolta digital SLR when it comes down a bit in price (about 1500$ now) because I have a huge investment already in Minolta lenses.

    Enjoy the camera!

PS-I added you if that is ok

As much as I hate pimping where I work, officemax has them cheaper, if you do the mail-in-rebate thing.

Officemax stores will match their web price, in case this special isn’t going on in-store. We don’t carry crap worth for carrying cases nor do we carry Nikon-branded batteries, though.

Actually, OfficeMax has it for $599.98. And the problem is that no one will match Costco because it’s a membership place… Costco also doens’t have it on their website, because they are running out of lots of them. And even if they did, Costco’s in-store price is $499.99 with a $200 instant rebate, so even if they did match the store price, OfficeMax wouldn’t have been able to match the instant rebate.

Oh, no, I meant the SD card. By no means did I mean the camera. :)

Oh, hehe. Actually, I need CF, and OfficeMax doesn’t carry the one I want. This is the piece I ordered for just about $100: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002MSTW2/102-3012763-2078532?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance

I ended up paying the $8.15 for normal shipping, just to be sure I get it all this week. Right now I’m stuck with a 16MB card.

            Very nice card. :)

Thanks. :) And not bad at $98 or so…
