Does anyone who reads my journal have any experience doing GIS work? I need to make a map of Mackinac Island for this week. I think the maps are available from the state for free in electronic format, I’m just having trouble figuring out where to go from there.

  1. I got a couple of maps fo the grand canyon off a website a couple of years ago with a bit of googling.

Interesting side note: Bryce can read the GIS map format and will create a 3D model of that map.

    1. Wow, that’s interesting… What I’m trying to find is a way to take the 1:24,000 maps available from the state and use them on my shiny new GPS. I think I’ve actually figured out how… It involves a number of PC tools, and a few known lat/long points. I think I’m going to be able to do this… What I’m trying to do is make a map of Mackinac Island for this weekend’s use.

Unfortunately, I won’t until after this semester. But here are a couple links which may/may not be of use to you. Good luck.
