Cryostatis Lecture Potluck

detour and found The Cryonics Institute building at I-94 and Shook.

Yesterday and I headed down to Dearborn in order to visit The Henry Ford Museum. While I haven’t posted the pictures of the museum itself yet (I’m still picking through them), I wanted to put this one up.

From time to time I have read about The Cryonics Institute, but it was only a few months ago when I realized exactly where it is; right at I-94 and Shook.

Also, it appears that they are having a potluck / lecture at 6pm tonight, right at their facility. It may be interesting to go to one of these lectures sometime. Hopefully I could catch a glimpse of the actual facilities used to house the 72 humans and 42 pets currently in cryostasis at the facility.

Hmm. If I wasn’t already going skating, I’d find someone to go with. Oh, and bake cookies or something first. I think a visit to one of the US’ two cryostasis facilities is worthy of tasty chocolate chip cookies.

George Dickel

So, today I acquired a bottle of George Dickel for purposes of making irish coffee.

Well, I’ve made myself one, and I’m sipping it while doing dishes.

It’s quite good, especially for a cheap(er) whisky. It puts Jack Daniels (shudder) to shame.

Mmm. This is great for American whisky. And if only used in irish coffee, it will go a long way.

Custom Printing Help

Hey everyone… I’m trying to find some place to get something printed at, but I’m really not sure where to start looking.

First off, I’m looking to have a set of overlays printed for the x0xb0x I hope to make soon. My idea for this overlay is to have something similar to an arcade game control panel overlay, which is similar to the heavy plastic adhesive ads stuck to the floor of some grocery stores.

My understanding is that these are typically printed on the back of a piece of plastic, and then the adhesive is applied to the back. Or, it is printed on adhesive vinyl then the textured plastic is applied to the top of that.

So, this brings about the question of where one would get something like this printed.

I’m thinking that I’ll first try the sign printing place in downtown Utica, as one of the services they advertise is custom printed car wraps, and this isn’t too different. But, do any of you know some place to get this made up?

Wow, I just realized that the person who sells the x0xb0x wrote the article in the DIY:Imaging article in Make three issues before the one I’m in. Her article (a timer for single-use digicams for use in kite-based photography) is much more nifty, though.

Detroit Historical Museum and Belle Isle

Back at the end of December 2005, , , and I went to the Detroit Historical Museum, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, the Scott Memorial Fountain, and a few other places on Belle Isle.

More AdSense Banners

Well, I just went ahead and created a new Gallery theme called ‘nuxx’ and modified it to serve AdSense banners in the left hand column. You can see the result in any of my photo gallery pages.

I really don’t think it looks too bad, and it’s fairly inobtrusive. Again, though, I’ll leave it for a while and see how much it brings in before deciding whether or not to pull it.

I had originally tried to use image banners, but it seems that Google doesn’t have a very wide range of AdSense images, so I kept getting non-profit or not-very-accurate banners. The text ones — while still ads — are much more accurate… Some I’d even consider clicking on, were I not at my own site.

Anyway, I think this is good for now.

Well, I just got done adding Google AdSense banners to all static pages on nuxx.net.

While they aren’t especially obtrusive, they do look a bit odd on the main page. That’s probably okay, though, because most of my hits come into various pages which actually contain information.

Despite their not looking too bad, I can’t help but feel like a bit of a whore. I’ll have to keep an eye on how much it brings in… If it’s not much, I’ll just pull the ads.
