Okay, so the last time I went rollerblading I did just under 13 miles. Averaged something like 8 mph along the route. This time? I was only able to do just over 6 miles, but had a moving average of exactly 10 mph by the time I got back to my car. It’s definitely different to skate in 90°F (32°C for you power-of-ten-folk) as opposed to 70°F (21°C) weather. Wow. I was sweating while moving. I think that’s a first in as long as I can remember…

Now it’s time to remove spyware from my Dentist’s computer. Whee!

Another thing for sale… Is anyone interested in a Netpliance I-Opener? It’s the original version, already hacked, with a 1GB hard drive installed, ready to go, USB network adapter, etc. I’ve also got a mouse/keyboard splitter so that you can use any PS/2 mouse and keyboard with it. Getting the hard drive in there required replacing the heatsink and doing some ninja-type mounting and fitting. It’s definitely not stock, but *is* ideal.

I just want $100 for it… In the original box, also with original keyboard and docs and firmware intact, etc. It works just fine, I just have no need for it anymore.

Otherwise, it’s going up on eBay, too.

Oh, in case you don’t know what one of these is, it’s a single panel computer/display with a modem, USB port, parallel port, etc. Great for running Linux or Windows 98 or whatever else you feel like on it.

Well, I just emailed the Shelby Township Historical Committee to offer them some free webhosting. Currently they have their site hosted at Tripod, with the rather unprofessional URL http://shelbyhistory.tripod.com. The photos for the site are also hosted at an ImageStation URL which requires you to log in. Interestingly, the login they provide for you has rights to add/change/delete photos. Not good.

I just offered them some free hosting, a copy of Gallery, email, etc. You know, the normal.

I sort of hope they take me up on it, as it’d be neat to host something on that scale.

???

Does anyone who reads this have any experience with Jabber? I’m trying to get a third party client (for use on my home machine) to connect with the corporate servers here, and it’s just. not. working.

So, please? Anyone who can throw some ideas my way?

Thanks!

VisionTek sure uses some wacky terms to describe their video cards. Check this out…

With 8 pipelines, pushing through 3 BILLION pixels per second, and 4 parallel GEO-Metry engines, processing 380 million [T&L] polygons per second, this card gives GRATUITOUS, adult entertainment. The 9800XT supports 128-bit, 64-bit and 32-bit floating-point color formats. HI-RES 32-bit, 3D gaming up to 2048×1536 for head-shooting, flesh-ripping, ALARMING graphics power.

The 9800XT fronts more than 18 BILLION (with a “B”) anti-aliasing samples per second for AWESOME performance up to 16 trilinear filtered texture samples per pixel. ATI’s programmable SMARTSHADERª 2.1 makes head-wounds and severed limbs look real with enhanced lighting and texture effects, while SMOOTHVISIONª 2.1 serves up full-scene anti-aliasing.

Computers have gone to the ricers. :(

[UPDATE: I found a bit more…]

Here‘s the one I was originally thinking of when I went digging around VisionTek‘s site:

Freak’n KICK ASS performance
Xtasy 9500 Pro, powered by ATI’s RADEON™ 9500 PRO VPU with 128MB DDR memory WILL BLOW YOU… AWAY! ATI’s TRUFORM technology makes heaving orbs more ample and well-endowed, while HYPER Z™ II saves bandwidth for mo’ righteous performance in your more demanding sit-e’ations. ATI’s SMOOTHVISION, anti-aliasing, KICKS THE CRAP out of visual distortion, and sends that BI-A-TCH crying home to mama! That means better, smoother looking images. HI-RES 32-bit, 3D gaming up to 2048×1536 means that when ‘intense applications’ leaves his house, THE 9500 SLAPS THAT PIG DOWN, SAYS “GIMME MY MONEY BI-A-TCH!”

BITCH’N Visual Effects
SMARTSHADER 2.0 provides FREAK’N AWESOME lighting effects. The 9500 PRO supports DirectX® 9.0 and OpenGL® ATI’s CHARISMA ENGINE II fronts ‘Transformation and Lighting’ (T&L) at 62.5 million triangles per second. “62.5M per second?”YOU BET YO’ ASS 62.5M PER SECOND! PIXEL TAPESTRY II, 3D rendering engine, powers an AWESOME 2.4 gigatexels/second for fill ratesat 32-bit HI-RES.

Ever have TWO MONITORS at one time?
Throw in DVD support and you have yourself a threesome…

Heaving orbs? < sigh >

nuxx.net Update

Just FYI, bornslippy.nuxx.net is back up. I didn’t get a chance to dig around in it much, as I wanted to reboot it and used a ‘ssh root@nuxx.net reboot’ command to make sure it happened right away. With things being as flappy as they were, I wanted the box downed and back up. As of now things are working great again… I guess I’ll just have to continue to monitor it as the day goes.

Maybe it’s time to set up something to alert me if it fails to reply to pings for more than a minute straight or something.

Oh, and this…

Click for more…

I got the tile cut and stuck down in the vestibule. Thanks to an angle grinder with a diamond wheel and a tile saw, it was nice, even though it was a bit wet and messy. That’s all right, though… It’s done right.

Oh, and this part of my house is officially the ‘vestibule’. It seems that the definition of foyer is more applicable to a large space. Vestibule fits much nicer…

Now I’m just doing laundry. All my laundry. See, part of stripping the floor of the laundry room requires me to soak it down with paint thinner. I’m not going to run a gas dryer in a room full of mineral spirits fumes. Oh, and I also need to tile underneath where the washer, dryer, and laundry tub are, so they have to be moved out of the way regardless.

With any luck I’ll have ceramic tile laid down in the laundry room by Monday night. Whee!

< grumble >

Oh, all email and websites hosted off of bornslippy.nuxx.net is down right now. I don’t know what’s wrong… The machine will return pings sporadically, and every once in a while just become available. It’s not a DDOS, and ofdoom, located on the same switch, is just fine. Something wonky… I’ve got a call in with the ISP asking them to reboot the box, so hopefully things will be back up soonish.

And yes, this is the same stuff I was seeing yesterday. I *thought* it was a runaway copy of PHP, but it looks like I’m wrong… The first thing to try? A reboot.

computersmoved from livejournalnuxx.net

Okay… bornslippy.nuxx.net is having problems. I’m not sure what’s going on yet, but it’ll receive email, you can check email, but I can’t ssh in nor hit it via http. Thus, I have no way of looking at it remotely.

Still digging… Worst case I’ll ask the onsite people to smack the reset button.

UPDATE: It seems that someone is heading into the facility later today and will reset the server for me. Uggh. Hopefully a few hours and it’ll all be back…

UPDATE TWO: Things are back to normal. I *think* that PHP being called by a new version of Gallery that I installed was causing hell. No idea why… I was able to SSH in, though, and things are just fine now. Now I just hope that the person at the colo doesn’t go ahead and reboot the server like he was going to. Eek!

computersmoved from livejournalnuxx.net

Well, it’s done. I think that the box has been sealed, BIOS settings tweaked, and the base OS set on what will be the new webserver, bornslippy.nuxx.net, is built. Hopefully it’ll go live within the week, but for now, feel free to look at some pictures of it. You’ll actually be accessing the new box itself, as I’ve got it running here at my house, but it’s still on my cable modem. Hopefully it’ll go in on Wednesday or Thursday. I hope. :D

UPDATE: Yeah, I did something dumb and deleted all my websites. I’m replacing them now. I need to pay more attention next time I mess around with rsync. dumb dumb dumb. If the photos aren’t available when you check, try in a few minutes.

UPDATE TWO: All fixed. I upgraded Gallery to a more secure version, too. Yay!
