OS X 10.5
October 26, 2007
So… 10.5.
To start: Finder no longer sucks. I’m copying 85,000 files (old maildir archive) and it’s behaving as one would expect.
I’m having some weirdness sending photos over from my phone via Bluetooth. Not sure what is to blame yet.
New Terminal is interesting. Not sure if I prefer it or iTerm more, but the concept of building profiles which affect everything the old terminal could do is great.
Mail.app 3.0 seems nice. We’ll see how it does incorporating my old mail.
Stacks are excellent, particularly when /Applications is added as one.
Uhm… More later. Right now I’m particularly waiting for my music library to start copying back so I have stuff to listen to.
I’m curious to see how it goes. If Apple returns my mbp with the drive completely wiped (BootCamp partition included), I’ll likely have to go 10.5 just to get BC installed again now that the BC betas have all expired.
To be honest, it’s pretty nice thus far. I’ve got all the moving-to-a-new-OS pains, but a good part of it is because I want to reinstall a bunch of apps and get rid of some old cruft.
I was able to just hammer the disk before (cp -Rpv my iTunes dir, moving 80k files in finder, and running a bunch of stuff), and turning on Grid view in Stacks for my gigantic Downloads folder crashed the dock, but it wasn’t a huge deal.
I’ll likely give Bootcamp a go once VMware is reinstalled.
Actually, /Applications is the only Stack I don’t like. I used to right click it to get a list because I’ve got a lot in that folder. There doesn’t seem to be a way to make a folder in the dock not be a Stack. Oh well.
It’s even too much for grid mode?
Gah, I’ve noticed a couple other things… I can’t tab from the LJ comment reply box to Post Comment button in Firefox now. And when in the Download list for Firefox if I click the “Downloads” folder at the bottom, it takes me to the parent directory with ‘Downloads’ highlighted.
I’m sure these will all get smoothed out pretty quickly.

That’s a preference in the Mouse control panel. I always have to change that one on any new install. The default behavior of only tabbing between fields and not buttons is pretty annoying.
Actually, that’s not affecting this. If I hit tab it goes from the main window to the address bar in FF… I think it’s a FF bug, to be honest. It happens with either of the Full Keyboard Access options.
