McMaster-Carr
July 27, 2006
Wow, McMaster-Carr has really impressed me.
Yesterday evening I ordered these parts and paid $4 in shipping. When I arrived home from work today, all the parts were waiting on the porch.
Wow. Just, wow.
Sure, I had to order 100 of each piece of screw which I wanted, but I was able to get the exact parts needed. And the cost was only around US$0.05/each anyway.
No trying to make-things-work with the hardware found at Lowes or Home Depot.
I’ll definitely be ordering from them again next time I need mechanical parts… Or whatever else they carry, for that matter.
they have warehouses in michigan stocked with all kinds of shit. they are usually really fast with shipping. they even have same day pick up if needed
No, they don’t. :\
I specifically need 5/16″ long 6-32 machine screws with captive locking washers. And 1/4″ long 6/32 flat head black oxide coated machine screws. And 1/4″ long 6-32, round female threaded spacers. And 2mm thick, 4mm ID, 6mm OD plastic spacers.
Very particular sizes of things…
Not that specific size and color-wise. I also needed some very specifically sized spacers. Additionally, I’m trying to document this as wholly repeatable, so anyone can make the same thing without having to fashion any parts themselves. Basically, engineering something with wholly commercially available (or orderable) parts.
