Synthy Goodness…

After another night of working on synths, I have something to show for it. Tonight I got the PAiA FatMan I am rebuilding (photo gallery retired) working, and as a test I had my x0xb0x triggering it, and both of their audio mixed together.

Also, flying wires to a front panel are a pain in the ass. Photos later of why.

    tell me about it.

Actually, anything with a significant amount of wiring is a real bitch. The DR110 I’m working on snapped it’s ribbon cable from too much handling, I had to make a new 18pin ribbon cable… oh so much stripping.

I hope that when I make the 9090, it’s pretty trivial to make the ribbon cables. I will definitely be using .100″ headers (and .127″ or whatever is standard for power).

At least it is no longer in the state it was in.

Something still seems a bit off, though… I can’t help but wonder if I should check every part on the board. Oh, what a chore that will be…

(No, I don’t trust that the original builder of the synth got everything right. There were parts missing from the board, and the octave offset pots were located on the outside of the case.)

      1. If you crimp it’s not so bad, but for some reason I don’t do that ;0)

I don’t do OPD (other people’s diy) for exactly the reason you’re running into. I gotta know that if something’s wrong, it’s something *I* did!

Crimp? Hehe… Nothing like having a device fail a while after it’s built, just because you shook it too hard.

After the amount I’ve spent rebuilding this (near US$100) I almost wonder if I should have spent the $200 on a new kit… Actually, thinking back to the weirdness of the other FatMan I had built, I think this one may sound right. They are just a bit… Simplistic.

Tonight I’ll add the subharmonic generator into the fold. Hopefully that was made right. ;)
