Canon 50mm EF Macro Lens For Sale

Well, I put my macro lens up for sale on eBay. Hopefully I’ll net just over $400 after I sell it.

On top of my grey market question from previously, is there any reason you all can see not to buy a refurb lens? I can get the lens in question (the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM) for $299 refurbished, $379 grey market, or $384 new. I’m really thinking I should go with the $299 refurb one, as that’s a huge savings. The lens hood will add another $27 or so, but that’s all right.

The auctions I’ve posted can be seen at the following two URLs, which will become active after 10:00pm EDT and 10:30pm EDT respectively:

Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro — LIKE NEW 50
Canon Life-Size Converter EF – Like New! Macro 50mm 50

If any of you would like to buy either of these pieces, please let me know before the auctions start so that I can cancel them.

I’m gonna skip on them, as nice as they are, due to my desire to have the previously mentioned Tokina, and before that I have two other lenses to buy (since my 1.8 50mm bit the pavement in a bad way recently, and I’m going to use that as an excuse to get the 50 1.4, so i have a damn focus ring)

I’d say the refurb is probably a good deal, I tend to buy as much as I can in the electronics world if it’s available refurbished.

Ah, okay. :) Well, the auctions are ready to roll anyway…

I really would like some lenses that are that fast, though… It’s just… What…

And yeah, I think I will go with the refurb. Just seems like a better idea.

My 50 1.8 is a great little lense for being about $70 new. Until I dropped it on pavement from abouut two feet up and it popped into two pieces (due to being plastic). The feel of the lense is shit, and the focus ring is pretty much non-existant, but i’ve managed some great shots with it. The 1.4 has some better features but rings up at a bit over $300. So many lenses, accessories on my list, I am having to hold back from dropping $2k on gear right now.

I’m wanting this really, really badly. It would be a worthwhile purchase, too… Well, only if I sold the 17-85… But still…

Which 50 is it that you have? I’m assuming it’s completely manual?

Yeah, that 24-70 is pretty nice, canon L glass is fucking sweet, and the built quality is great. However, the price is fuck all high. Instead, I have been thinking about getting this:

This is the Tokina I have currently, and love:

The 50mm I have is this one:

The 50mm I am looking at getting to replace it is:

I really don’t like the EF-S lenses, from my limited experience with them.

This is the ultimate Zoom Telephoto for my photojournalism needs, just pricy:
