Best of Bootie 2007: Fixed

It seems that I sort of screwed up the zip file for the Best of Bootie 2007 comp mentioned here. Basically, the very last file was missing about two minutes of audio. I think that bootieusa.com was starting to have problems as I downloaded it.

Anyway, the zip file is fixed. If you’ve already downloaded it, grab bob2007_2-10.mp3 and use it to replace Disc 2, Track 10 (the very last track), listed as 2:09 in length, and everything will be better.

Or, you’re welcome to just grab the whole package again.

Best of Bootie 2007

So, those Bootie comps that I rather like? Well, the Best of Bootie 2007 one is out too.

For your (and my) convenience, I have put all the normal and bonus tracks together, applied the artwork to them all, cleaned up the artist/album/track number/whatever stuff on the bonus bits, made the bonus stuff disc 2, and uploaded it all.

It’s all ready to drop into iTunes and sync over to an iPod or whatnot.

Wrong Shipping

Wrongly shipped item...Not a handlebar mount.

Arraugh. Right after getting my bike I hit Buy-It-Now on this eBay auction; a bike handlebar mount for my Garmin eTrex Legend GPS.

I figured it wouldn’t take very long to get the package and it didn’t, but it contains the wrong thing: a carrying case instead of a handlebar mount.

I was hoping to use this soon, too. Bah. Hopefully it won’t take too long to sort out.

Time for NYE celebrating. :D

USA Spec PA11-HON2y Review

So, long story short, has an iPod and was needing a good way to hook it up to his car, so wanted to get him one for Christmas. I suggested that she get the USA Spec, and said that I’d install it. Well, she did, and I installed it this afternoon.

The install went great and while I don’t have many photos of the installation, I did write up a review of the PA11-HON2y.

In short, it’s a pretty nice device which does exactly what it claims to do: provide a basic iPod input to OEM head units, and provide a basic level of control (next / prev track, ff/rw, pausing when turning off the vehicle or switching away from the iPod).

I have a strong suspicion that the other USA Spec interfaces work in a very similar manner (see here for why), so even if you have a non-Honda vehicle, you may want to look at these interfaces if you are looking for a way to hook an iPod to your head unit.

Bike!

After seven years of not having a bike, and about half that of wanting one, I now have a new bike.

This afternoon Brian () and I ended up heading over to Fraser Bicycle and Fitness, which seems to be one of the better bike shops in this area. I saw the bike I’d previously looked at online (and liked), found the price to be as expected (MSRP), and was really comfortable on the test ride I took it for.

After we went over to Noble Fish for some amazing sushi, then to Costco so I could buy some toilet paper, we headed back to the shop. I ended up getting the bike, a water bottle, a water bottle holder, and a helmet. The helmet is a Specialized Air Force 3, in black, size ADULT XXL, to fit my big head.

The total, after tax, was just under $800, which seems pretty reasonable to me.

Brian also got a new bike at the same time. His is the exact same thing, but in a matte black finish, with different shifters / brakes, and with V brakes instead of discs.

(I’d provide links to each product at Specialized‘s site, but the site wants to set your country first. In case you’ve done so, here is the bike and here is the helmet. Also, sorry the photo is crap. I just took it in the basement under some really cheap daylight-ish CFs.)

Well, there goes my working MAME machine. Things were going well, with Windows 2000 having been installed so that I could use the win32 binary of a new version of MAME. I wanted to change the BIOS logo, so I first ran the BIOS updater from MSI to get the latest BIOS on there (the version I was going to add a new image to), and things just stopped.

The damned MSI bios updater has killed this board. The on-board diagnostic LEDs simply light as all red, which is (supposedly) indicative of a defective CPU. Bah.

Also, I’ve noticed that for the last few days the power at my house has been running at 59.9 MHz lately, not 60. I find that odd.

UPDATE: I just remembered that I had another one of these boards here, but a bad one. I just swapped BIOS chips and poof, things work again. Damned MSI.

For dinner tonight I think I made an upscale version of Tuna Helper.

It was:

~ 4 oz of goat cheese
~ 6 oz of half and half
~ Enough olive oil to cover the bottom of a sauce pan.
Pepper To Taste

1 Can Trader Joe’s Smoked Alaskan Salmon

One Pound Fresh Fettucini

Cook the sauce, toss with the cooked pasta and salmon, and serve.

When at the (very crowded) post office this afternoon a man came in, saying that he thinks he may have just dropped his cell phone in the mail box, but he wasn’t sure. After lots of berating the employees to look for his phone, they took his number and tried calling it to find the phone in the piles of mail. The man answered, saying that he’d found it in his truck.
