Humax Series 2 80 Hour TiVo

Since my TiVo HD is working properly (seems to have been an update glitch) I grabbed a photo of my older, Series 2 80 hour TiVo to post along with this:

Would anyone like this TiVo?

It works great and is all set for you to use, you’ll just have to grab a network adapter for it, or plug it into your phone line and let it dial up. The firmware is up to date enough that all the supported adapters (including the quite nice TiVo-branded wireless one) will work with it.

You’ll also have to pay the monthly service fee to use it, but that’s only about $12/mo.

It’s available for pickup, or I’ll ship it, but you’ll pay shipping.

Put me down as “moderate interest.” If nobody else claims it in a few days, I’ll take it.

Why it Might be good to donate it to a school

I don’t know if anything but the original TIVO model will work, but a really interesting non-entertainment use is this:

High School Diving Team uses their’s in conjunction with a video camera and a television (all mounted on nice solid cart a safe number of steps away from the edge of the pool and plugged into a saftey interrupter circuit)

They use the TiVO to created about a one minute delay.
    The kids dive,
    swim over to the edge,
climb out and (just before they walk back to get in line for the the diving board/platform),
they can look over at the TV and see THEIR OWN DIVE from a minute before.

Talk about a good feedback loop.

Anway, because of the subscription thing, I’m not sure if it can be done with anything but the orginal TiVo, but I have seen it done.

Do you have any info on how this is done, software-wise? I’m curious…

I think they just use the pause and resume to manually create the delay, but I’ll ask at one of the coaches at one of the schools whose networks I support.

Ah, thanks. That’d be interesting to see.

That said, I don’t know how many schools would actually have the facilities to use it…
