Wrong Resonator with TV-B-GoneAt first I thought this might be okay, as a new v1.1 of the kit was released, and I figured that maybe the BOM hadn’t been updated. However, after things didn’t work, I did a bit more digging and realized that it’s just the wrong part. The microcontroller won’t even run at that 16MHz speed, the firmware says that 8MHz is required, etc.
That’s now a total of three kits I’ve ordered from there, two of which had missing parts. I hope I’m the only customer with these issues.

but anyways, the x0x’s are just -hard- to get perfect because theres 500 components. & christmas kits suffered a little due to christmas insanity. (& as soon as i realized i shipped 10 wrong kits i put up multiple notes on the website…)
but so far the problem rate seems to be about 1%, so you’re just unlucky!
still, not sure why you’d be hoping other people have similar kit problems, perhaps misery loves company?
Doh, sorry. I wrote that wrong. I meant that I hope others don’t…
At least it’s only one little part. I’m fairly certain everything else is fine, as long as briefly attempting to run the AVR too fast didn’t hurt things.
On the upside, my particularly nervous friend did a pretty good job putting everything together.

running the chip fast wont damage it, it just wont run!
Actually, I remembered I had a proper crystal on an old dev board, so I just dropped it into the TV-B-Gone with some 15pf caps and things are working great. So, thanks, but don’t bother now. :) It’s working great…
