Beer / Cider Brewing Equipment

[Crossposted to and …]

So, there’s a very distinct possibility that I will need to rid myself of beer brewing equipment. This includes:

· Gas burner and two large pots. (Turkey fryer, turkey fryer pot, and other very large pot. Only ever used for beer.)
· Two 5 gallon carboys and one 6 gallon carboy.
· Two buckets, one with spout for bottling.
· Lever-style Bottle Capper.
· Various tubing, airlocks, siphon, bottling wand.
· A good number of clean, empty, label-less, matching bottles.
· A few various ingredients (corn sugar, rice hulls, irish moss, etc).
· Bottle tree large enough to hold enough bottles for five-gallon batch.

Are any of you interested? It’s available in Southeast Michigan, and I’d probably want about $200 for it all, although I’m willing to entertain other offers…

  1. OK, so I’m a nosy person who came over here from homebrewing – assuming you’re interviewing for the company I imagine it is… if they move you, bring the beer stuff. I’ve got a patio big enough to brew on and no gas burner and pot, a minimal capper, organic, home-grown Fuggles hops in the freezer, and a son who worked for the aforementioned company for a while – I can see some geeky brew parties ahead. We’re not big drinkers and comparative novice brewers, but who knows? I’ve got our brew stuff stored in a closet. Don’t give up the brew!

    1. agreed. I was brewing in an apartment before my company moved me..if they give you relocation brewing stuff wont be a problem

      1. The relocation $ depends on how much they want you. They gave my son a $5K allowance, but I know someone they just paid the whole move from Holland for. Packing and shipping!

I presume we’re talking about the same company, and I was waiting until tomorrow until I could put together a more structured reply and all, I figure I’ll reply now. My biggest concern is that I have a condo and moving, for me, is more than just… moving. It also involves selling the place and (at least in part) funding such a move where as I had been (until 1.5 months ago) using available funds to pay off outstanding debt (house/car).

I’m hoping things go as hoped (offer and relocation, including assistance selling) and I’ll end up out that way, although I’m really, honestly not sure at this point. Guess I’ll know in… a few weeks? I think?

          1. Well, if you’re coming to Mountain View and the company is famous for its food, yes, the same company. There’s a good community: mountain_view. The interview will be long and hard, but you should do fine – they fly you out only if you look pretty good on paper, so if you have the smarts to back it up, it should go well. And yes, it does take them a while to get back to you with a final result.

I don’t work there (like I said, my kid did), but I sold my house of 12 years and moved here – it’s a pain, but doable. there are a lot of apartments available, but unless you’re ready to commit to a half a million, you probably won’t be buying anything very soon. The housing prices are off the charts.

          2. Oh, and it sounds like you have friends here who will make you welcome: if not, let me know and I’ll take you to the Computer History Museum while you’re here, if you’re free on a W-F-S-Su afternoon.

          3. That place rules. Have you been in the storage out back? It’s insane…

          4. I haven’t been to the storage unit at Moffett, but I’ve been inc=volved with a couple of mainframe movings and the re-organization of the artifact storage. I’ve moved some amazing and memorable machines – I talk about it in my LJ blog. Mostly, lately I’ve been working in the Library.

          5. Yeah, I was talking about the on-site storage, I haven’t seen their stuff at Moffett either. I’d love to volunteer, but between work and school, spare time is limited.

          6. Next Saturday, Feb. 10, is a workday. You can come just from 9 to 12, lots of people do. They feed you lunch. I usually go for the whole session, until 3, with a break for lunch. This week there’s a movie at 2 – a Polish, subtitled film about the Polish cryptologists cracking the Enigma machine. How can you resist? ;) Oh, I just checked – the movie runs 2.5 hours. Well, that’s a bit much. But the volunteering is fun – the first work day I went I got to dust the exhibits. Dusting a Cray rocks.

          7. Sadly, that is the only time my language lab at school is open that I’m not supposed to be at work… and I’m required to put in so many hours over the course of the semester that I’m stuck at school every Saturday morning this semester. Maybe next semester will be different.
