Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier, Roasted Michigan Sweet Corn, and Baked Macaroni and Cheese
Here’s what I made for Danielle and I for dinner. Except she had a glass of Yates cider (from the same batch as what I’m currently fermenting) instead of the beer. That’s some sweet corn from Boyka’s on 23 Mile somewhere around Romeo Plank, baked mac and cheese from the Alton Brown / Good Eats recipe (except made with a vidalia onion and Clancy’s Fancy), and an amazingly smoky beer which only becomes available around this time of the year.
Mmm.
Looks tasty. Sid-nuxx package arrived yesterday, BTW, not that I’ll have time to work on it until the holidays, what with all the classes I’m taking. Thanks!
Thanks. :) And I’m glad to hear it arrived… For what it’s worth, it’s a single evening assembly job. The hardest part (in my opinion) is making the main board to front panel cables. Everything else is a cakewalk.
Oh, I’m sure it’s a quick job, but every spare hour is taken up reading or coding at the moment, and there’s some papers on the horizon… I just don’t foresee it happening during the semester, unless I take a day off work. That may not be a bad idea, actually.
Oh, and that was quite a packing job, btw. Icis walked by a couple of times during the process: “are you STILL unpacking that thing?”.
Oh, ack. Yeah, that’s busy. Letting school suffer would be bad.
And thanks. I tried to do things in a somewhat safe manner. I’d originally tried to do the mainboard parts in one bag and front panel in another, but there were a few extra things I tossed in at the end and I’m not sure where I put them.
Also, there are some spare parts in there. Mostly things like resistors where I changed a value at the last minute (like those driving the LEDs), spare LEDs (pick green or yellow) and some mechanical parts for which it’d be hard to find replacements if you drop something. Just… stuff. So, don’t worry when there are things left over.
Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier = one of my top 5 of all time
Most people hate it too
Have you seen the party kegs of it? My favorite local shops has them from time to time… Not sure if it’s the Urbock (which is what I had tonight) or the less-smoky Marzen.
The stuff is really good all around. Mmm.
I love the Marzen, I actually haven’t had the Urbock. Not many places here carry it either.
That looks delicious! :) Very nice color coordination of foods, too. ;)
Thank you. I don’t know if it was the right beer choice, but it sure worked out.
We have those exact same plates.
Hehe, so you’ve mentioned. ;)
I really like them… Although I think the set is discontinued. :\
The Baked Mac and Cheese looks very good
It is. I strongly suggest making some if you get a chance. The only variation from the recipe is the use of vidalia onion instead of yellow, a spiraly pasta (campanile, or something like that), no black pepper, and about 1/2 tsp of good hot sauce.
Was the base recipe bland then?
No, I just wanted a gentler, sweeter tasting onion. And the recipe recommends paprika, but I think a small bit of spice really livens up mac and cheese. As Clancy’s Fancy isn’t especially vinegary, I think it works well.
i don’t really like mac and cheese much. but that looks damn good.
ah, it’s the smoked cheese beer! i love that one! :)
