Ice on the breakwater off of Port Austin, MI.

So, yeah. On Saturday I had nothing to do and no one to do anything with, so I made my way over to M-53 and drove to the top of the thumb. While up there I ended up stopping at the State Dock in Port Austin before heading west along M-25. I took M-25 all the way to Bay City, then I-75 down through Flint and such, and eventually home. I also stopped at another breakwater / beach in Caseville, saw the Pioneer Sugar Company’s plant in Sebewaing (if you’ve eaten Michigan Beet Sugar, it probably came from here), walked around on some beaches, and got a bunch of photos. So, if you want to see those photos, either click on the photo above, or click here: Thumb Area (March 11, 2006)
It’s too bad we missed each other, you probably drove right past my house in Bay City (considering it is like 2 miles wide by 3 miles long). We could have grabbed something to eat or whatever.
BTW There is a sugar factory in Bay City too that makes beet sugar. Big Chief.
Oh, that’s right… I forgot about Big Chief. And yeah, I guess I probably did drive right past there. Sorry about that. :\ There was also some detour around what seemed like one of the two bridges across the river, so I had to go about 15 miles (I think?) south to Zilwaukee before I could find an easy way on.
That area you drove down is fairly nice though, there’s that little airport and then those wetlands next to the river.
Yep. :) That’s right where I went through… Unfortunately I was really quite tired when there, and it was dark, so I didn’t get to see much beyond the lights on the buildings.
