Blah.
August 5, 2005
So tonight I decided to have one of those bottles of 11% or 13% or whatever beer that I’d made, the Rochefort 10 Cloneish. Well, I grabbed a bottle which had been aging for six weeks, and what did I find? No carbonation.
Needless to say, I’m really disappointed. I have no idea what could have gone wrong, except for maybe the yeast dying off or something.
Blah. I’ve got no idea.
If you want, here is a picture of it poured in a glass.
I just hope that it either improves with time, or at the very least, that the other two not-yet-complete batches (the modified golden ale and the wheat berry ale) don’t suck.
I think this batch cost somewhere around $60 – $70 plus time once all was said and done.
Blah.
That’s annoying. It’s a gorgeous colour though.
That really sucks. Did it have enough residual sugar when you bottle conditioned it? And carbonation aside, how’s the flavor?
It should have had enough sugar… I added about 3/4 cup of corn sugar, which should give it about…. 2.2 volumes, I believe. The flavor is pretty good, but it’s still got a bit of an edge to it. It’s not as sweet as it was, so I’m thinking that maybe the yeast is doing something. At this rate I think I’ll end up just sticking it aside until Christmas or something. :\
Oh, bummer. :( I’m sorry – but maybe it will improve in time!
maybe this is Hayzeus telling you that you should switch to a corny keg setup and force carbonate it :P
Hehe… In the fridge that just descended infto my garage on a glowing cloud?
