Pecan Sticky Bun & Fresh Coffee

Clicky for HUUUUUGE…
As I tend to do, I’ve taken another photo of a mid-afternoon snack. This time it’s a pecan sticky bun from Ridley’s Bakery and Cafe (in Troy, Michigan) and some coffee that I had just roasted. The coffee is a 50/50 blend of Organic Mexican and Organic Sumatra and is absolutely wonderful. When it was placed in the press, the coffee had been ground for about two minutes, and was still warm from coming out of the roaster. Mmm.
Oh, and as is demonstrated by the picture above, the new camera doesn’t suck. It’s much, much more flexible than the Coolpix 3200 I briefly had. While the CP3200 isn’t a bad camera, it’s just not very good for detailed shots of food and the like.
That looks way to good… dang.
So how do you roast your own coffee? Just curious. I know someone else that does this – but I never found out how. Do you start with raw/dried beans – and where would you get something like that around here? Looks great!
I had me a DON DE DIEU from Unibroue last night. Good stuff!
I actually do the roasting with this roaster, but I had picked it up on clearance from The Great Indoors when they were going out of business. It was a nice surprising $17. Your best bet for getting green beans is Bald Mountain Coffee, which is run by a coworker of‘s. He sells beans and such for very competitive prices, and lives somewhat close by, so UPS should be one-day when shipped ground.
Those beans had actually been purchased from a store in Bloomington, Indiana, but that was just because I happened to be there and wanted to buy some. Otherwise I’d order from Bald Mountain Coffee.
Oh, I should give that beer a try… Lately I’ve been sticking to my latest batch and the other stuff around the house, but I really do need to acquire some more…
Is their site updated often? It seems that a lot of their beans are out of stock… But this looks really good – and they have a nice-sounding roaster thats only about $70. Is yours a drum or a hot-air roaster? I’m intrigued, and really tempted to get one. Also, I am guessing there are other places online that you can order beans from as well. Seems cheaper, too, than buying already-roasted!
The one I linked to is a hot air one… I originally wasn’t going to buy one, but for $19, I couldn’t beat it. Since then the only coffee I consume at home is stuff that I roast myself… It’s very, very good.
It’s also really interesting to give people coffee that tastes the way it smells. That’s how coffee should be. :)
whats that red weiner thing in the top left?
A platic injection moulded souviner of The Weinermobile from the Henry Ford Museum.
oh cool.. I didnt see wheels.. They didnt have that one when I was there last just some presidents heads ):
Oh, doh. That one is way over on the other side, down near the Weinermobile parking area and such. :)
