Yes, total about eight hours. Half of this was fitting, cutting, grinding, and adjusting tile, then the other half was actually sticking the tile down. Wow. I don’t want to do a room of that size with 6″ x 6″ tile ever again! If you’d like to see how it came out, I suggest taking a look at this and this, the odd-angle photo from above here, or the whole album here.

I don’t think I mentioned it before, but I also got the tile laid in the front vestibule, as can be seen here.

Next is putting the moulding around the laundry room. I think this will be the same tiles stood up on edge… Then grouting the laundry room to wrap it up and getting it back in working order (not having a laundry tub nor washer and dryer is a big deal). Then grouting the front vestibule, replacing all the moulding in there, and then starting on the kitchen. Ye gods, it’s a lot of work!

    Tile

You may want to rethink the idea of running tile cuts as moulding. While not a bad practice for some installations which are likely to flood, generally a good wood moulding will acentuate the nice tile job better.

Not a bad job by the way. I do this for a living. 13″ tile runs about 3.75 a square foot installation. Smaller tiles are more. You look to have saved a good amount doing it yourself.

      Re: Tile

Thanks for the idea. I think I’m going to do the tile still, though, as this is a laundry room and it’ll kinda add to the utilitarian feel of the room. In the kitchen, though, where I’m going to do the same tile (only in 12″ x 12″) I will leave the wood base moulding and replace the shoe moulding. There was a vinyl cove base there initially and while it didn’t look bad with the sheet vinyl, I think I want something equally waterproof, yet not cheap looking. And, it is an area where I tend to clean things and spill water, soo… :)

Oh, and thank you for the compliment. :) This is actually the second tile install I’ve done, the first being the couple of 12″‘s in the front vestibule. I’m just really picky about things, and since I have to live with the work I do, I figure I should make it look nice.

I have to say, I don’t want to do 6″ tiles in a space like that again, though. It’s a *lot* of work compared to 12″. I would have done the 12″‘s in that room, but the floor has a slight slope towards the drain… But, it’s done. Moulding and grout time. (Likely Wednesday and Thursday or Friday, respectively.)

      Thank you. :)

dang, it’s so straight! Usually when people do their own tile it’s all crooked and crappy looking, but yours looks really nice so far.

Hehe… Thanks. Do you know how mad I’d be at my self if it looked bad? I think the problem with most people doing things themselves and screwing them up is just simply not paying attention, taking the time to prepare, and using the proper tools.

that’d be me. I suck at being patient and learning how to do stuff right. usually I just jump right in and then research what I did wrong later. :)

although lately, I’ve been a bit better about that. With the sewing and gardening projects I’ve been working on, I even did some reading ahead of time!

Hey! I just remembered… I keep forgetting to reply about the post card thingy. Yes, if you are still making one, that’d be top notch.

Heh… Oddly, I don’t really talk about my sex life publically. Only rarely do I go into detail with even friends… Not sure why, I just don’t.

that picture totally reminds me of that anti-abortion shit some churches do. a church by my moms house puts out tons of little crosses in memory of the “murdered unborn”

    1. hannunvaakuna April 13, 2004

oh man! now that you mention it, that’s totally what it looks like! creepy!

    2. c0nsumer April 13, 2004

That huge church at 12 and Woodward does that all the time… Except they do the “Three times as many as the crosses you see…” etc thing.

Blah. If it wasn’t so well lit, it’d be interesting to go invert all the crosses.
