Right now I'm wishing I had a higher resolution display on this laptop. I'm watching the recent anime release ‘Metropolis' while somewhere above, I believe, northern Canada. The film is all right, but since the animation is so Astroboy-like, I'm having a hard time taking it seriously. If everything goes according to plan, we should be in Detroit in right about four hours. I'm looking forward to getting home and seeing my friends, and fortunately I'm not quite tired yet. My plan is to stay awake for the whole flight, then go to bed once I get home, sleeping until around noon, then heading over to the record store for a bit, then finally over to Pete and Michelle's over in Ferndale.

All in all, this has been a good vacation, a nice time for me away. After a few days had past I began questioning whether or not it was smart for me to spend in excess of two thousand dollars just for a week and a half away in Alaska. In the end I had a number of new experiences, many photos, stories to tell, and an all around relaxing, good time. I've managed to forget about work and home-related responsibilities for going on eleven days now, which is precisely what I needed. I also am extremely fortunate to have made a new friend, and even though she lives in Anchorage and I near Detroit, I'd hope that we don't lose contact with each other.

I know I had said that the rest of the posts would be written in straight HTML and not through Word, but I lied. I much prefer to write in a word processor, then cut and paste into TextPad where HTML tags can be added. I think I'm going to go do that now, and unless something comes up or I find myself incredibly bored, this will be the last post I make as part of this Alaska Vacation Journal until I reach my house. Oh, in case it wasn't noticed, I've also made the switch back to Eastern Daylight Time, as that's the timezone used at DTW, where we'll be landing.

I just finished up Metropolis. It's good, although not as wonderful as I hoped. Perhaps it's the constant rumbling of the engines in the back ground and the occasional interruptions by the people serving dinner, snacks, etc. Well, I think that I'm going to go add this entry now, then get back to reading The Illuminatus! Trilogy. It's still a while before we land in Detroit, I just hope the time passes quickly, as I've got a stomach ache from the food.

Well, this is it. I'm back home, the computers are back up and running, and I'm going to go get some sleep. I hope that whoever besides me reads this journal ends up enjoying it, no matter how much rambling I did or how many tangents I went off on...
