{"id":19540,"date":"2022-11-15T09:13:03","date_gmt":"2022-11-15T14:13:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nuxx.net\/blog\/?p=19540"},"modified":"2022-11-15T09:13:05","modified_gmt":"2022-11-15T14:13:05","slug":"my-photo-gallery-has-been-removed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nuxx.net\/blog\/2022\/11\/15\/my-photo-gallery-has-been-removed\/","title":{"rendered":"My Photo Gallery Has Been Removed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Since 2001 or so I&#8217;ve been hosting most of my personal photos in a public gallery at <a href=\"http:\/\/nuxx.net\/gallery\">nuxx.net\/gallery<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20011214155557\/http:\/\/www.nuxx.net\/gallery\/\">archive.org link<\/a> to one of the first instances).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, ~21 years later, I&#8217;ve taken it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve no single reason why; it&#8217;s basically a combination of these things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Two years ago I <a href=\"https:\/\/nuxx.net\/blog\/2020\/07\/05\/archiving-gallery-2-with-httrack\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"18989\">made the photo gallery static<\/a>, so nothing new was being added.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keeping the gallery online costs $8\/mo for the extra 80GB volume at Linode.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I previously used this gallery to share a lot of life online. I no longer do this in the same way.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outside of social media, everything I publish online for the last few years has been via this blog.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The aforementioned static archiving of Gallery and backups with <a href=\"https:\/\/nuxx.net\/blog\/2020\/01\/08\/borgbackup-repository-on-synology-dsm-6-2-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"18844\">Borg<\/a> made it easy to move hosting to my NAS at home.
