It seems that this particular Tyan Transport GX28 (B2882G28S2H) server is not RoHS compliant.

After opening the outer carton which the Tyan Transport GX28 (B2882G28S2H) shipped in I found another plain box. Double boxing like this is good.

Opening the inner box reveals four more. One contains manuals, disks and cables, the next contains the rail kit, and the other two are heatsinks.

One of the heatsinks, part number 340740900005, is labeled skiving fins. This is a particular type of heatsink.

The Tyan Transport GX28 (B2882G28S2H) server itself sitting on my workbench, next to a bottle of bitters. Perspective makes the server look much smaller than it really is.

On the B2882 motherboard inside the Tyan Transport GX28 (B2882G28S2H) is an AMD chipset. Here is the AMD-8111 HyperTransport I/O Hub.

This sticker located over the CPU socket warns one not to use a non-Tyan supplied CPU backplate. In this case I think the word backplate actually means heatsink.

Taped to the chassis, above one of the drive cages, is a sachet of silica gel to keep the server dry during storage and transport.

The Tyan B2882 features the practically standard-in-servers ATI Rage XL (215R3LASB41G) graphics chip. This is a very standard, very compatible, low power chip.
